The 18th Century Fota House offers visitors an intimate look at how life was lived in the past, whether as a servant or as a member of the gentry.
You can take a tour of Fota House with its Regency neo-classical rooms, antique furniture and art collection. Or wander through the arboretum with its world-renowned collection of southern hemisphere rare, tender and exotic trees and shrubs. Highlights include the palm walk, the orangery, and atmospheric Victorian fernery. “Fota” is derived from the Irish “Fód te” meaning warm soil – perfect for the growing and cultivation of rare trees and exotic plants. Or you can explore the Victorian working garden with its glasshouses, pit houses and bothy buildings, its unusual planting and its orchards.
Fota House is a 15 minute drive from West Beach House.
